Yooo I got it working on linux first try.

PS: The whole proton GE latest and protonplus thing is just to get a wine runner more likely to work on the first try. I welcome you to try with whatever latest wine version is already installed.

Here's what I did

Install most recent version of lutris for your distro (Haven't tried flatpak version of lutris)

Install ProtonPlus
Install Proton GE latest with protonplus

Throw RTFM into its own folder somewhere in your Home directory, hopefully on an EXT4 drive, not NTFS.

I put mine in a new folder called RTFM:
/home/atlas47/Documents/Portable Games/RTFM/

Open Lutris

Set proton GE latest as your default wine runner in lutris

Plus icon in top left to add a game

Add a locally installed game (should be bottom entry)

On the game info tab, select your Runner (Wine, Proton GE)

Also add a game name (mine was RTFM)

On the second tab (game options) select your executable, your .exe (mine was in /home/atlas47/Documents/Portable Games/RTFM/RTFM_win32/RTFM_win32/RTFM-win32/RTFM.exe)

On the same tab, select your working directory as the folder that has the .exe in it (/home/atlas47/Documents/Portable Games/RTFM/RTFM_win32/RTFM_win32/RTFM-win32/)

Hit save, then go find the RTFM entry in your lutris games, then run it. Wait a very long time for first launch and do not stop it before it launches unless unless you want to restart it the whole process.

Game should launch

it works w/ vanilla wine too lmao

I agree. For most users all the steps with Proton GE and Protonplus should be skipped

Versions in order of importance: GE-Proton10-34. I had steam installed and used proton before, so you may need to run a windows game with steam first. This should only be required for proton versions and not wine versions

I think there is a very frustrating, game-breaking bug on mac. We got to a point where it showed 7 shapes in a row onscreen, and there were 3 more off-screen to the right. The first two were not selectable, and the ones that were selectable were selected out of order. They were rearrangeable, like section 2. There were duplicates of the same shape. Couldn't find an input that worked.

The malware input also didn't work, so I don't think it was the ending. It was very frustrating, since the nature of the game makes it unclear if this was an intentional "glitch" or a real bug, so we banged our collective head against the wall for a long time and eventually gave up. I retried on windows and had no issues, so I don't think it was intentional. Has anyone else encountered this?

Hello! Just wanted to let you know we're looking into this - we can sometimes replicate this bug, so hopefully a patch will be coming soon. Thanks for the info, was really helpful for helping us hunt it down!

Does anyone know similar games? Either online or physical (printed maybe)

Tin Can has a similar mode where you have to ask friends what error codes mean as your escape pod is destroying itself.

Thanks!

Haven’t played it yet but looking at the blurb, the whole schtick sounds similar to Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (steam) and Defusal (Roblox).

"Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes" was the flagship title of this genre some years back.

Keep talking and nobody explodes :)

Hey, I’m not sure whether I got the right ending? I tried entering override butterfly but I just got a syntax error. divingbomb is the only thing that worked/I found out. idk whether it’s relevant, but I used a german keyboard layout.

Anyways, I already liked what I saw up until now, but wish I could’ve gotten more of the lore :3

Thanks so much for the heads up re the syntax error - we're working on a patch for this and will let you know when it's live.

also would be very fun as a boardgame

any plans to build a native version for linux gamers?

At the moment there aren't plans for any additional builds as this was just a quickie one-week project. We really appreciate the interest though!
